You know, we have this small but meaningful tradition, one that might seem ordinary to others, but to me, it’s become something sacred.
Every time one of us is about to fly abroad, whether it’s you or me, we always find our way to KFC. We sit down, order our usual Chicken Fully Loaded Meal — crispy chicken, rice, soup, a drink, a brownie or fries… nothing fancy. Just the usual stuff.
But over time, this little ritual of ours has turned into our thing. A quiet, comforting dinner before a journey. Funny how something so simple fried chicken and fast food can feel so sacred when it’s wrapped in love.
Not long ago, during one of our Bible studies, I was reminded of the word Mizpah. It comes from Genesis 31:49, when Jacob and Laban were about to part ways. Laban said, “May the LORD keep watch between you and me when we are away from each other.”
That verse stayed with me.
It reminded me that even when people are far apart, there’s this spiritual closeness that remains — a connection that distance can’t break. And I thought… wow, that’s exactly what our KFC tradition feels like.
It’s not just a meal. It’s a moment of pause. A small act of connection before the distance comes in. So I gave it a new meaning in my heart:
KFC: Keeping Faith & Connection.
- K for Keeping — keeping our love strong, our memories alive, and each other close in heart. Even when we’re apart, we keep choosing each other.
- F for Faith — in us, in our relationship, and in God, who is always watching over us wherever we are.
- C for Connection — the kind that goes beyond presence. It’s in the moments we share over chicken and fries, in the silent prayers we lift, and in those warm, lingering HUGs before we say goodbye.
Maybe it sounds silly to get deep over a fast-food meal, but honestly, that’s what makes it beautiful. These simple moments, the ones we almost overlook, sometimes carry the most meaning.
That’s our Mizpah.
Our reminder that even in the in-betweens, we are never truly alone.
That God is watching over us.
And that love, when rooted in faith, can stand even when we’re miles apart.
Always choosing you,
Jhim
Lord,
Thank You for giving us this love.
As we go our separate ways for now, please keep us safe and give us your peace.
Help us to stay connected in heart, even when we’re far apart.
Remind us that You’re always with us, guiding us and watching over us.
Grow our love, deepen our trust, and keep us close to You and to each other.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
